Embody
At the age of 17, I wanted to challenge my body.I had studied and imitated many classical oilpaintings, where people were placed in a veryhigh position, and we depicted the most perfectimage of the human body, the body of a god, and then the body of a noble. I wanted to learnhow to depict a noble in a beautiful way, justlike in those paintings. In today's world wheresocial media is thriving, people also followtrends to showcase their perfect parts and usesoftware to hide their flaws. I wanted tochallenge this traditional notion and treat mybody as a decoration, as an insignificant andflawed object hung up on the wall.
I tried other ways of showing them. Besidesexhibitions, I also had different shows in myown studio. Different ways of presenting themhad different effects. I put them on traditionalChinese chairs and then just piled themtogether to make them look like a lot of meat.In the exhibition, I want them to be closer tothe audience and have more tension.
As you can seein the details mybrushstrokes arevery rough andhave a paintingfeel, and Icombine thepainting with thesoft sculpture in avery differentway—a way ofpresentingdifferentmaterials.
